Flower crowns are incredibly trendy and a delightful way to enhance any summer outfit. Major retailers often sell these lovely accessories at inflated prices, so why not create your own? This DIY project will not only save you money but also give you the freedom to design a unique flower crown perfect for summer festivals, raves, and outings. Read on for detailed instructions.

You Will Need:
- A selection of silk flowers. It’s best to buy more than you think you’ll need to achieve a fuller crown. I found mine on sale at a local craft store, but the dollar store is also a great option.
- Sturdy, thick-coated floral wire. I sourced this from the craft store, but consider visiting a local florist if you’re having difficulty finding it.
- A hot glue gun
- Scissors or pliers that can cut through wire.
- Electrical tape (optional)
Begin by measuring your floral wire. I wrapped a piece around my head twice to ensure a good fit, then cut it. Wrapping it twice is important because we’ll be braiding later, and this helps maintain length. Cut two additional pieces of wire to match the first, giving you three equal lengths.
Once you’ve braided the wire, shape it into a large circle to form the crown. Twist any extra overlap back into the crown using your hands or pliers, and try to push exposed wire ends into the crown for safety.

If desired, you can tape the ends where wire is exposed. This step is optional, but I recommend it for safety. I used some electrical tape I had at home; don’t worry about how it looks, as we’ll cover it later.
Now comes the enjoyable part! Begin by removing the blooms from their plastic stems.
Trim off any extra greenery to create a flat base on the silk flowers, which makes gluing easier.
With the stems removed, start gluing the flowers onto the crown. Apply a small dollop of hot glue to the base of each flower and press it onto the wire crown.
You might want to plan the arrangement beforehand, but I prefer to attach them as I go, making decisions based on how the crown evolves. A good tip is to glue your largest flowers on first.
After attaching all the larger blooms, fill in any gaps with smaller flowers.
Feel free to get creative! I like to add texture by incorporating long stems of tiny silk flowers between the larger ones.
Remember that unsightly electrical tape we used earlier? Snip a few silk leaves from the stems and glue them over any exposed tape on the crown.
Congratulations! You now have a beautiful flower crown that you crafted for a fraction of the price of store-bought versions—and best of all, it’s made by you!
