There’s little to regret about swapping snowy storms for balmy breezes and rolling waves—except perhaps the bewilderment your skin experiences. Transitioning from cold, dry air to a humid coastal environment has its ups and downs. Here’s how to navigate it:

Keep Moisturizing
Upon arriving in a hot, humid locale, the sweat gathering on your forehead might lead you to think moisturizer is unnecessary. Even after washing your face, your skin may feel soft and plump due to the heat and moisture in the air. But don’t be deceived; your skin still needs hydration. Pro tip: store your moisturizer in the fridge for a refreshing treat at the end of a hot day (or even better, at the start!). This way, when you return to your chilly, dry home, your skin will have a fighting chance to maintain that sun-kissed glow.

Stay Committed to Your Skincare Routine
It’s tempting to slack off on your skincare while on vacation. We’ve all been there—who wants to bother with exfoliating and toning while relaxing? However, neglecting your routine could lead to regrets. Instead of viewing it as a chore, think of your skincare regimen as a soothing DIY spa session at day’s end. Take your time and relish the feeling of cleansing and moisturizing; it can be surprisingly relaxing.

Never Skip Sunscreen
The cardinal rule for any sun-filled getaway is to slather on sunscreen—plenty of it. Especially if you have fair skin like mine, you know the importance of this to prevent turning your holiday into a painful sunburn experience. I’ve made that mistake, and it’s not one I plan to repeat. There are significant health risks involved, plus cosmetic concerns like premature wrinkles. So, always apply sunscreen—my personal go-to is SPF 60.

Consider a Makeup-Free Week at the Beach
During my winter break in Florida, despite packing a full makeup kit (I adore makeup as a hobby), I didn’t use any. Seriously—nothing. This might seem unthinkable for beauty enthusiasts, but it worked wonders for my skin. That week of no makeup, paired with sunscreen and my skincare routine, left my skin feeling incredible—soft and blemish-free. While I don’t suggest doing this all the time, a vacation is a great opportunity for your skin to breathe. Plus, it eliminates the hassle of makeup running in the heat.

Don’t Worry About Sweat
I typically dislike sweating, except at the gym where a shower follows immediately. However, while on vacation in a warm climate, I make an exception—especially in winter. Embrace the warmth and the sweat; it’s your body’s way of detoxifying and refreshing itself. So, don’t stress about sweating—just enjoy the pool whenever you can!

Ultimately, remember to relax during your winter getaway. Stress is a major factor in skin issues, so prioritize cleansing your face, applying sunscreen outdoors, and taking time for yourself. Enjoy your vacation!
